The southeastern Mexican city, Cancun still remains one of the most attractive travel destinations in 2021 following the country’s tourism sector reopening in June 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Can I travel to Cancun right now?
Yes, you can. Cancun is currently open to all foreign travellers. The land border between Mexico and the United States is closed for nonessential travel through at least May 21. However, air travel is allowed.
- There are also no COVID‑19 test requirements for entry to Mexico.
- All passengers must complete a health declaration form by registering on the Vuela Seguro website upon arrival in Mexico. Once completed it will generate a QR code.
The QR code has to be available and presented to health authorities upon arrival.
Will I be quarantined if I travel to Mexico during COVID-19 Pandemic?
No, the state no longer requires self-quarantine for visitors or New Mexicans arriving into the state from “high-risk” states or states with a 5 per cent positivity rate or greater over a 7-day rolling average, or a positive test rate greater than 80 per 1 million residents.
- Visitors from anywhere outside of the state will instead be strongly advised to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days and to seek out a COVID-19 test upon their arrival in or return to New Mexico.
