Travelers to the United Kingdom (UK) who appear on the country’s Amber List may be required to book Day 2 and 8 COVID-19 tests before arrival in the country. Apart from travelers taking a COVID test in their country 3-days before traveling to England, they are required to book and pay for COVID-19 tests to be taken in England after arrival, and also fill a passenger locator form.
For fully vaccinated travelers from Amber List country:
If you are fully vaccinated and traveling from an Amber list country, you are to take a COVID-19 test 3-days before traveling to England, book and pay for COVID-19 tests to be taken after arrival in England, and also complete a passenger locater form. If you will be in England for less than 2 days you still need to book and pay for a day 2 COVID-19 test. You only need to take the test if you are still in England on day 2.
Fully vaccinated travelers are to take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 of their arrival in England. Vaccinated persons are not required to quarantine. Not all vaccines are recognized by the UK. Vaccines that are part of the UK vaccination program home and overseas, an approved vaccination program in Europe or the USA are recognized.
For persons who are not fully vaccinated and traveling from an Amber list country:
If you are not fully vaccinated and traveling to the UK from an Amber list country, you are to take a COVID-19 test 3-days before traveling to England, book and pay for COVID-19 tests to be taken after arrival in England, and also complete a passenger locater form. If you will be in England for less than 2 days you still need to book and pay for a day 2 COVID-19 test. You only need to take the test if you are still in England on day 2.
Persons who are not fully vaccinated or do not meet the fully vaccinated rules are to quarantine at home or in the place where there would be staying for 10 days even if they will be in England for less than 10 days. In addition to the quarantine rules, unvaccinated persons must take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8 of their arrival in England.
How to book Day 2 and 8 tests
To book your Day 2 and 8 tests, first, confirm if your country is still on the Amber list because the list keeps updating without notice. Your country might have moved to the green list or red list which have different requirements altogether. Once you have confirmed that your country is still on the Amber list, look out for one of the Gov.UK listed providers. Visit their websites and compare their services. The providers provide different kinds of testing based on which list you belong to. You may decide to book Day 2 and 8, or even add Day 5 if you want to leave quarantine earlier. Some providers provide all three tests as a bundle.
