The Maldives has been confirmed as the Official Host Country of ITB Berlin 2027, giving the island nation a headline role at the travel trade show in Berlin.
The agreement was signed during ITB Berlin 2026 at the Maldives stand in Hall 5.2. Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives (MMPRC), signed on behalf of the destination, together with Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin.
Dr. Tobias said the Maldives will return as host a decade after its first hosting role. He said the 2027 edition will highlight the destination’s appeal while also pointing to the link between tourism and sustainability.
Visit Maldives said the host country showcase will go beyond resort tourism. The Maldives plans to promote luxury resorts and boutique stays, as well as diving, water sports, wellness travel and local island experiences. It also said sustainability will remain part of its tourism agenda, with initiatives aimed at marine protection and support for local communities.
“ITB Berlin provides us with the ideal platform to showcase the unique experiences our islands offer,” Shiuree said.
The press release also notes that 2027 has been declared “Visit Maldives Year.” The campaign, announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, is expected to include marketing work in key markets, including major travel events, roadshows, and digital promotion.
As host country, the Maldives will stage the official opening gala on 15 March 2027 and lead on-show activities during ITB Berlin 2027 from 16 to 18 March 2027. Organisers said visitors can expect a large national stand, cultural performances, networking events, and media activities.
The announcement follows a recent visit to Berlin by the Maldivian President, which the release describes as a milestone for ties between the Maldives and Germany.
