Foreign Visitors Spend €1.23 Billion in Estonia Last Year

Estonia’s popularity as a tourist destination reached new heights in 2023, with nearly 4 million foreign tourists contributing 1.23 billion euros to the country’s economy, according to the Bank of Estonia. The number of foreign arrivals in Estonia increased by 13% from the previous year. The increase in tourism spending, which amounted to an extra 178 million euros compared to the previous year, is a significant indication of the country’s growing appeal to international travelers.

The report also revealed that 85% of the tourists came from EU countries, representing a 17% increase from the previous year. Finland was the dominant source of tourism, with a 21% increase in visits, making up the largest number of visitors to Estonia in 2023. The United Kingdom also emerged as a leading non-EU source country, with a 25% increase in visitors compared to the previous year.

Day trippers accounted for 39% of all visits, showing a significant increase from the previous year. Additionally, overnight stays increased by 11%, with the average visit lasting 3.4 nights. The majority of outbound trips from Estonia were destined for EU countries, with visits to Finland and Latvia showing substantial increases.

The data also showcased an increasing trend of visits to countries outside the EU, with Russia and Türkiye emerging as the most visited destinations. The tourism landscape in Estonia seems to be thriving, with outbound trips and stays abroad seeing significant increases year on year.

In light of these statistics, Estonia continues to be an attractive destination for international tourists, offering a diverse range of experiences and attractions for visitors to explore. The country’s natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture make it an enticing destination for travelers seeking new and exciting experiences.
