Italy has made a decision to push back the timelines for foreign nationals to apply for one of the 151,000 work permits available for this year. The application window for the first group of foreign non-seasonal workers opens on March 18, while the last group of seasonal workers can apply starting March 25. This delay gives foreign workers a chance to prepare and submit their applications in their respective categories.

Non-seasonal workers from countries with bilateral or migration agreements with Italy can start applying for work permits on March 18, 2024. Those from countries without agreements with Italy can submit their applications starting from March 21, 2024. The Italian authorities have allocated a total of 89,050 quota spots for these two groups, ensuring that there are opportunities for both sets of workers.

As for seasonal workers, they will be allowed to submit their applications from March 25, 2024. In total, there are 61,250 quota spots for non-seasonal workers and 700 spots for self-employed foreign workers. It’s important to note that work permits are granted on a first-come, first-served basis, so it’s crucial for applicants to act quickly when the application window opens.

Italian employers were previously given the opportunity to make requests for foreign workers, and the response was overwhelming. On “click day,” Italian employers made over 82,550 requests for foreign workers in the agriculture, tourism, and hotel industries, reflecting the high demand for manpower in these sectors. The top countries of origin for foreign workers in Italy include Morocco, Albania, Senegal, and Pakistan.

In addition to the need for workers in these sectors, Italy also has a demand for highly qualified workers, particularly in the medical field. Doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists are among the most sought-after professionals in Italy. This indicates the diverse opportunities available for foreign workers seeking employment in Italy. This delay in the application timeline provides clarity and a fair chance for foreign nationals to apply for work permits in Italy. If you’re considering working in Italy, make sure to mark your calendar for the opening of the application window and seize the opportunity.
