Bulgarian Ski Resort Renames Street to “Nomad Place”
In an effort to recognize and appreciate the growing community of digital nomads in the Bulgarian ski resort of Semkovo, the Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria, along with the municipality of Belia, has officially renamed a street in the resort as “Nomad Place.” This move comes as a nod to the remote workers from all over the world who have turned Semkovo into a hub for digital nomads.
The street is named after a place where digital nomads live together, known as Coliving Semkovo, located at the address “Nomad Place 1.” This unique initiative has been embraced by the founder of Coliving Semkovo, Matthias Zeitler, who expressed his excitement and gratitude for the evolving support for the digital nomad community in Bulgaria.
Semkovo Coliving aims to create a space where a diverse global digital nomad community can seamlessly combine work, living, and a connection with nature. This effort showcases Bulgaria’s dedication to implementing innovative tourism strategies and embracing the growing trend of digital nomadism.
While Bulgaria does not have a specific digital nomad visa, it is part of the EU. Therefore, digital nomads residing in any EU country are allowed to enter and live in Bulgaria for up to three months without any visa requirements. Non-EU remote workers are eligible to apply for a Bulgarian freelance visa, which allows them to work and reside in the country for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension.
Furthermore, digital nomads from non-EU countries can also apply for tourist visas or type C visas, and those looking to extend their stay in Sofia beyond 90 days can apply for a D visa, which is the closest permit to a digital nomad visa. This recent development in Semkovo is not only a symbolic gesture but also a step forward in making Bulgaria a more welcoming destination for remote workers and digital nomads from around the world.
