ITA Airways has announced that it will be resuming flights between Tel Aviv and Rome airports starting in March of this year. The airline plans to have three flights per week, with the possibility of adding more during the summer months depending on geopolitical changes.
In March, ITA Airways will operate flight departures from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 15:20 local time, arriving at Rome’s Fiumicino airport at 18:05 local time. Departures from Rome will be on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 10:00 local time, arriving at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport at 14:20 local time.
According to ITA Airways, the resumption of flights between Tel Aviv and Rome was made possible thanks to cooperation with Italian and Israeli authorities. It is seen as a strategically important step for the airline as it strengthens the commercial, social, and cultural relations between the two markets.
Starting March 31, in the 2024 summer season, ITA Airways will operate departures from Tel Aviv every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 14:30, arriving in Rome at 17:15. Meanwhile, departures from Rome will be every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 9:10, arriving in Tel Aviv at 13:30.
The flight schedule will also provide convenient transfer options from Israel to various ITA Airways international destinations, especially in North America.
In addition to ITA Airways, eight other European airlines have partially resumed flights to Tel Aviv. However, these airlines have indicated that their decision may change depending on security developments. Lufthansa Group (including SWISS and Austrian airlines), Tarom, and Aegean are among the airlines that have already resumed their flights to Tel Aviv.
On the other hand, AirBaltic has extended the suspension of all flights to and from Tel Aviv until March due to uncertainties related to the current situation in Israel. This decision follows the October 7th Hamas attacks last year, which led to a decrease in international flights and passengers at Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.
Despite these challenges, the announcement of the resumption of flights between Tel Aviv and Rome is a positive development for travelers looking to visit both destinations. With more airlines gradually resuming their flights to Tel Aviv, there is hope for a steady recovery in the travel industry.
