Booking.com has recently unveiled its list of the top ten trending destinations for 2024, with two European cities making the cut. According to Schengenvisainfo.com, Valkenburg in the Netherlands and Chemnitz in Germany ranked fifth and seventh, respectively.
Valkenburg, located in the southern part of the Netherlands, is known for its historical significance, unique cave system, and picturesque surroundings. The town features the medieval Valkenburg Castle, adding to its historical allure. On the other hand, Chemnitz boasts a mix of historical and contemporary architecture, as well as numerous academic and cultural institutions, making it a diverse and dynamic urban destination.
The list of trending destinations was based on the most booked locations between August 1, 2022, and July 31, 2023, as well as year-over-year increases in bookings. Leading the list is Beppu on Kyushu Island in southwest Japan, known for its rich geothermal springs. Vlora in Albania follows, renowned for its beautiful beaches and historical value.
The third trending destination is Merida in Mexico, a vibrant capital rich in Mayan and colonial heritage. Portland in the United States claims the fourth spot, known for its sustainability-minded, bike-friendly environment and access to nature, coffee, art, craft beer, delicious food, and live music.
The list also includes Buenos Aires, the vibrant capital of Argentina known for its beauty, culture, and as the birthplace of tango. Rotorua City in New Zealand takes the eighth spot, famous for its geothermal activity, ancient forests, and mesmerizing Maori culture.
Panglao, a stunning beach destination in the Philippines, and Cairns, Australia, known for its tropical climate and Aboriginal culture, round out the list of trending destinations for 2024. Whether it’s exploring historical towns in Europe or soaking in geothermal springs in Japan, there’s a diverse array of trending destinations to consider for your next travel adventure.
