Are you planning to study in Germany? If so, you will need to provide proof of financial resources in order to obtain a German student visa. The good news is that universities in Germany do not require tuition fees from students, and the cost of living is also affordable. However, you will still need to convince officials that you can cover your living expenses for one year in Germany.

The current legal regulations state that students must have €853 monthly or €10,236 a year to cover their living expenses in Germany.

Who is required to provide proof of financial resources? Residents of EU countries, including Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland, are not required to provide financial resources proof. However, non-EU country residents need to provide proof when applying for a student visa. Citizens of certain countries, such as Honduras, Israel, Australia, Japan, Canada, Republic of South Korea, United States of America, and New Zealand, need to provide proof when applying for a residence permit.

There are several ways to prove financial resources to cover living costs in Germany. You can use a German blocked account, show proof of financial assets or income from your parents, provide a document showing a scholarship award, obtain a guarantee from a bank, or get a guarantee from a relative living in Germany to cover your living costs.

The German blocked account is a popular choice among international students to prove their financial resources. This type of account requires you to deposit a specific amount of money to use for living expenses in Germany for one year. The money cannot be accessed until you arrive in Germany and transfer it to a regular bank account.

You may also use parental income, scholarships, bank guarantees, or the support of a permanent resident in Germany as proof of financial resources. The embassy may require additional documents depending on your personal circumstances.

It’s important to note that you do not need to show proof of finances during the university admission process. Instead, you will only need to provide proof of financial resources when applying for a student visa.

For further information, you can contact the German embassy or consulate in your country, as well as the Foreigners’ Office in the city of Germany where you plan to study. Good luck!
